Play to Win - Anything Else is an Insult To Professional Sports

Have you ever been watching a professional football game and a receiver sees a bunch of opponents on their way to intercept him, and instead of going for that extra 3-4 yards he steps out of bounds? Doesn’t that upset you as a fan? After all, you watch the game to see the battle and strength of the players. But the famous receiver is on a huge multi-million dollar pay plan and figures it’s not up to him to take any risks with his career?

Sure, I guess that makes perfect sense from a risk management standpoint and it might make since in a life and death war-fighter scenario, but it just irks the fans, they are there or watching to see the action and these players rob them of their entertainment. It’s just not right. Now, I don’t know you, maybe you are a wimp in your personal life, a girlie man or just a wannabe priss; if so, I guess you don’t care, but I do.

Vince Lombardi would not approve of this, every yard counts, and at the end of the game those extra yards may have been the difference between winning and losing. Hundreds of Thousands of athletes never make it to the NFL, and they try - is it really fair to them?

When you are paid 100s of millions of dollars in sports endorsements and negotiated salary, you have a duty to the game and the fans, it’s not just about you. If you are going to play the game, then for heaven’s sake Play to Win, because quite frankly, anything else is an insult in Professional Sports.
